The Bans And Limits We Need

(keep in mind the date this article was released if you're reading it during a whole different format)

I will probably make a completely different article with long overdue erratas, so this one can specifically focus on limits and bans (I believe semi-limited should be removed as a concept entirely). These are the cards that I believe are ruining the game, and should simply be removed from it in order to fix it.

Mystic Mine

BAN While I run backrow removal in all my decks and therefore aren't personally affected by this disaster of a card, I am simply disgusted when I see people running it. It is pretty much the strongest floodgate the game has ever had, and I cannot stop thinking that whoever designed this hadn't even considered the possibility that a player can play it while controlling no monsters at all. Again, I run backrow removal anyway (whoever has read my articles knows how much I praise "MST" and "Bad Aim"), but the fact that this piece of garbage forces EVERY deck out there to run cards specifically to combat it is simply horrible.

Red-Eyes Fusion

BAN Same goes for every single Fusion Spell in the game that can use materials exclusively from the Main Deck. It is simply bad design, randomly thrown restrictions afterwards don't do a thing.

Eldlich the Golden Lord

LIMIT While "Golden Lands" have a deeply problematic design in general (with every single card floating), the real problem of "Eldlich" is that the most effective counterplay against the Deck, banishing the "Golden Lord" while he is in the GY, is pointless when people just run 2 more copies of him that are all easily accessible. Rather than 1 well-calculated move, you need to do 3, which is just dumb.

Chaos Dragon Levianeer

BAN This actually goes for all cards that allow you to lower your opponent's hand balance on the first turn of the duel, but "Levianeer" is the most popular.

Darkest Diabolos, Lord of the Lair

BAN For the same reason as above. One of the solutions I have thought of for this issue is simply a rule change that prevents the activation of any effect that would lower the hand balance of the opponent on the first turn of the duel. Might make a future article with rule changes that could help the game.

Adamancipator Tuners

LIMIT For all of them. You know the issue: They are self-specialling monsters that also + you. It's simply bad design.

Chimeratech Mefagleet Dragon

BAN He doesn't affect the current game, but this is long overdue. He is a brainless -1 for the opponent from the extra deck with zero investment. In another article I had done an experiment to see how people would react to him in the very hated Link 1 form, with zero practical differences from his normal Fusion form. Folks were complaining about how utterly broken he was left and right.

Zoodiac Drident

BAN Same as above.

Divine Arsenal AA-Zeus Sky Thunder

BAN For the same reason as the above. He is a Link 1 wearing a different skin to hide how overpowered he is.

Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo

BAN This sh!t's been long overdue. Throw in "Jowgen" and "Inspector Boarder" as well. They are simply brainless lockdowns that promote unskilled play.

Nibiru, the Primal Being

LIMIT Frankly 5 summons is way too few, it hurts decks that it shouldn't. Possibly fixed by errataing him to 8 summons or something.

Guardragons Elpy & Pisty

BAN We have talked extensively in the past about how horrible of an idea it is to give Link 1s + effects.

Altergeist Multifaker & Dogmatika Ecclesia, the Virtuous

LIMIT Same reason for both: They Special themselves, then +you from that very Special. It's just bad design.

Frankly writing this article gave me a lot of ideas for future ones. The next article I make is probably gonna be one with the erratas that we should have long since had.

(There is a surprising number of spanking pics for Aoi, and they're from different artists. I'm seeing a pattern here.)
